Japan! Is This Trip For You?

Travel to Japan: Rotary International District 5510 is looking for professionals from any field age 25-40 who are willing to participate in cultural & vocational exchange. We are seeking applicants for a month long Group Study Exchange trip to Japan beginning mid October 2007. Team members are provided with air transportation, lodging and meals with Rotarian families of the host district and will follow a structured agenda. The goal of GSE is to offer a vocationally oriented interchange of ideas, customs, and culture. Those chosen are required to attend Team training, prepare for public speaking both during the trip & upon return, and to write a summary of their experiences.

Criteria include: US citizenship, age 25-40, 2 years in like profession/vocation, health insurance, availability for 4 week travel. Bilingual ability is a plus. Subject to interview selection. Please refer to the interview deadlines below.

First order of business! We need a Team Leader. The outbound team will consist of one Rotarian leader and four non-Rotarians from the district. The leader will serve on the interview committee selecting the team. Please solicit your club members for applicants to be the team leader, and to promote this program to ‘civilians’ who would make great team members. In short, the requirements for a Team Leader are:

• An experienced Rotarian with knowledge of our District and International Service
• Capability to act as liaison between the Team & the host district
• Availability to devote time to team preparation & training for 3-4 months in advance of the exchange
• Ability to travel from mid October 2007 for 30 days
• Commitment to attend District Conference in June 2008 and make club presentations upon completion of the exchange
• Ability to speak Japanese - a plus
• A consensus builder, and team player
• Mental, physical, and intellectual stamina to captain this type of effort

Interview Deadlines

Team Leader application deadline May 1, 2007 and interviews May 12, 2007
Team Member application deadline May 30, 2007 and interviews June 2, 2007

All applicants for Team Leader and Team Member must include an essay entitled “How I Will Enhance the 5510 GSE Team”.
